ARCHIVE: Digital Rendering Contest |
|
| CURRENT
LISTING: Laffoley Design 3D Rendering Contest |
Paul would like to attempt creating 3D & Zoomable versions,
VR Objects or Fly-throughs of some of his Designs.
Laffoley mentioned he had never
been able to find anyone who could render his works digitally and
doubted if it was possible. I responded that he just didn't
know the right people and there were some amazing 3D artists out
there who would take this as a challenge. The winners will be chosen
by Paul and featured as a section on this site, and maybe used in
his lecture presentations. There would be
no physical "prize" for winning the modeling contest,
but your work would be featured here in a special section and referenced
with your name + a link to your work. You will be fully credited
if it is later displayed as part of a presentation, etc. Also this
will be a good challenge to sharpen your rendering skills with some
mind-blowing designs ... Paul has not found anyone yet who can do
this, even though his art is basically pre-formatted schematics!
But I assured him it was possible now, with the 7500 new
& talented people we've met from the Myspace
profile.
Note: You will need software capable of generating all types
of: platonics and polytopes, pure math forms, minimal surfaces
and for some advanced pieces you will need skill in rendering precisely
measured interconnected machine parts programmed to follow physical
laws of intertia, gravity, gyroscopic motion, etc..

If
they are Larger than 10 Megabytes, Post them Online and Send a Private
Link where I can download them as either: tiff, jpeg, anim-gif,
swf, vrml, qtvr or mpeg video. (suggest other formats if you have
ideas) By entering your art in this contest you are agreeing to
unlimited (always credited to the artist) use by LaffoleyArchive.com
of the works submitted, since the result is basically a collaboration
between your computer rendering skills and Paul's design genius.
Paul may incorporate some images or media into his lecture presentations,
but your work will NOT be used in commercial printed publications
without written consent of the artist.

Nested
& Wrapped Transparent Klein Bottle, from -
"The Cosmo-Phonon: Prior to the Big-Bang"
(at right: 21 x 21 in. - 2003)
Description: Nested Dual Klein Surface(?), semi-transparent,
with 4 interior & outer loops and 4 tubes extending
outward, which connect to another flattened kelin surface
in the full painting.
Reference Files:
(sorry for the jpeg noise in these, resized from a
small file)
a. Large

b. Large

c. Large

c. Full
painting
GOAL:
If you can do the outer-connected
Klen surface then that's awesome, but the goal for this
one is primarily a very good version of the cropped form
at Left.

Nested
Multiple Transparent Klein Bottles, from-
"The Cosmolux: The Reconstruction of the Universe
as a Singularity" (at right: 6 x 6 ft. - 1981)
Description: Nested Triple Klein Surface(?), semi-transparent,surrounded
by awesome cosmic color-computer mandala..
Reference Files:
(sorry for the jpeg noise in these, resized from a small
file)
a. Large
image, cropped
b. Large
image, dark contrast, cropped
c. Full
context
GOAL:
The goal for this one is primarily
a very good version of the cropped form at Left. If you
can recreate the mandalic structure framed around it then
you get mega extra-points. |

"The World Soul of Plotinus" (at right:

Description: Klein-Like Minimal Surface(?),
Fractally Recursive in the Center.

Consider
this to be more than a visual design contest ...
Eventually the most accurate ones could lay the foundation of
templates
for 3D printing of flawless reproductions Paul's inventions
in plastic, cramic or metal at any scale
or to create and test real components of his mechanical inventions
which were unbuildable until now!
A 3D-design contest or a start at planting the seeds for
making Paul Laffoley's inventions into working prototypes?
... perhaps even bringing the Time-Machine one step closer!
